Stylish star Allu Arjun’s Varudu had a grand release worldwide last week and opened to a houseful board everywhere. Having one of the highest success rates amongst actors, his movies always carry mammoth expectations. Like his previous hits Desamuduru, Parugu and Arya 2 the movie opened to the mixed response, which infact has turned into a ‘sentiment’ for Arjun. But the collections have another story to say. The movie garnered a mind-numbing Rs 18.5 crore opening week collections, one of the top five in Telugu cinema. Parugu had a bigger opening that Desamuduru, while Arya 2 had a better opening than Parugu. Surprisingly, Varudu’s openings is higher than Arya 2 a testament to Arjun’s growing strength at the boxoffice.

This phenomenon is not restricted to Andhra alone. Arya 2 was amongst one of the biggest money spinners in Kerala (Malayalam dubbed). With a collection of Rs 2.56 crore for the first week in Karntaka, Varudu has the second biggestopening for a telugu movie in Karntaka. His previous film Arya 2, grossed Rs 4.70 crores in its lifetime run in the state.

Celebrating the grand openings of his film and his birthday which happens to fall on the 8th of April, Arjun had met the press today. He expressed his gratitude to the audience and said this movie was close to his heart traditionally as it had a message of upholding Telugu tradition. Being a producer’s son he always felt the numbers the movie generates should speak for itself, and Varudu’s openings just do that.
